steverie I'm not sure what it says about me personally, but ugliness & abrasiveness are qualities that I really enjoy in music. It takes a lot of talent to make something ugly sound cool, and the Melvins had mastered that art by the time they recorded the Gluey Porch Treatments album. The guitars grind, squeal, & drone, the drums pound & pummel, the bass grooves & adds heft to the mix, and Buzz wails like a maniac. The final product would go on to influence the weirdos of music for decades. Rock on! Favorite track: Eye Flys.

Levrikon Hail to Ipecac for reissuing the first Melvins album, resplendent with a dozen interesting bonus tracks. If it can be believed, The Melvins' first is probably their weirdest, I can't imagine that people thought about when they first put this on in 1987. Now Jack White needs to put the Third Man catalog on Bandcamp so we can get some more classic Melvins on digital.

Floor-to-ceiling Boris ragers! It’s like they looked back on songs like Statement and Woman On the Screen and said “let’s do a whole album like that!” Most of these tracks don’t even pass 3 minutes! Zerkalo holds up the middle with some anguished doom. In the end, *NO* is as strong and declarative as it’s title. Brian Parker
